Overview
A tyre killer — or spike barrier — enforces one-way vehicle movement at a checkpoint. Authorised vehicles pass safely; any vehicle attempting to breach against the flow drives onto a bank of hardened, retractable spikes that disable it immediately without endangering the surrounding area.
Key features
- Hardened, spring-loaded or hydraulic retractable spikes
- Directional operation — safe one way, denying the other
- Surface-mounted and in-ground (flush) versions
- Anti-corrosion finish for long outdoor service life
- Interlocking with boom barriers and traffic lights
- Clear warning signage and lighting for safety
Where they are used
Tyre killers are deployed at high-security checkpoints, exit-only lanes, parking structures and military gates — wherever it is essential to prevent tailgating, wrong-way entry or the theft of vehicles through an exit.
Why it matters
Spike barriers add a low-cost, highly visible deterrent that makes an attempted breach immediately self-defeating. Paired with a boom barrier or blocker, they close the gap that unauthorised drivers most often try to exploit — the moment a legitimate vehicle passes.
